Travelers Beware: REAL ID Deadline is coming...

Beginning May 7, 2025 we will need a Real ID-compliant driver's license or state-issued ID to board domestic flights. Here's how you obtain one:

1. Log onto the California DMV website. Create an account and fill out an application.

2. Once you've done that upload one of the listed appropriate forms of identification listed below (Real ID Checklist). Please make sure that your current full name matches what is on your identity document.

  • Valid U.S. passport or passport card (preferred)
  • Original or Certified copy of U.S birth certificate (issued by a city, county, or state vital statistics office)
  • Valid Permanent Resident Card
  • Foreign passport with valid U.S. Visa and approved I-94 form
  • Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of U.S. Citizenship
  • Certified copy of birth certificate from a U.S. Territory
  • Valid Employment Authorization Document (EAD) Card (I-766) or valid/expired EAD Card with Notice of Action (I-797 C)
  • Valid Permanent Resident Card with Notice of Action (I-797 C) or Approval Notice (I-797)
  • U.S. Certificate of Birth Abroad or Consular Report of Birth Abroad of U.S. Citizen
  • Valid foreign passport stamped “Processed for I-551”
  • Documents reflecting TPS benefit eligibility

3. Upload your proof of residency - documents accepted would be recent home utility bills, phone bill, medical documents, bank records, tax returns, rental lease agreements, or insurance statements. Click here for a full list of accepted documentation.

Once you have completed these steps the website will ask you to choose a date for your appointment visit and generate a confirmation code. You will need to bring this code and the documents you provided as your proof of ID and residency to the DMV with you. The DMV has made a REAL ID step-by-step instruction video - click here.
