4 Easy Ways to Prevent Identity Theft this Tax Season

1. Guard Your Information
Don't validate your information with anyone who contacts you by email💻 or over the phone📞. The IRS still
contacts tax payers by snail mail📫, so don't be fooled if someone says they are calling you from the IRS🕴️. They will NEVER call you and ask for SSN or any sensitive information. If someone you don't know calls or emails you for tax information do not respond🚫.

2. Use Direct Deposit
Having your tax refund deposited directly into your bank account or sent to a mailbox📫 that locks will prevent thieves from stealing your refund checks💸.

3. File Early
Filing your taxes early📆 makes it harder for fraudsters to file on your behalf and access your tax refund. If you suspect that someone has stolen your identity for employment purposes or to file fraudulent tax return should complete form 14039 and mail or fax it to the appropriate IRS office with the requested forms of identification.

4.Always use security software
and anti-virus☣️ protections and always update them. Encrypt sensitive files such as tax records you store on your computer. Use strong passwords🔐, 12-15 characters provide more security. IRS Tips
